Founded in 2003, Virgo Health was created with the single minded focus on being a best in class healthcare communications agency, working with clients to set the agenda rather than follow it. Core to this was establishing a vision and set of values that the agency has lived and breathed since inception. Success was immediate and has been consistent ever since. In 2011, the multi-award winning, 60-strong agency saw revenues grow by 17 per cent to reach £5.5m.

SITUATION
We worked with Virgo’s founders on how they could best capitalise on the company’s success, maximise opportunities for its team and clients and allow the business to build both its digital capabilities and international footprint.

OUR BRIEF
Our initial work involved a thorough assessment of the market and evaluation of the various opportunities open to Virgo including lengthy deliberation over continuing to operate as an independent agency or taking on a strategic partner organisation. These discussions were consistently framed by Virgo’s values and commitment to’Communications Without Compromise’ which formed the basis of qualifying criteria for any potential partner.

Virgo received a number of different proposals presenting a variety of exciting opportunities. Our role was to use our deep understanding of both the founders and the company’s objectives to help holistically appraise each offer.

OUTCOME
With their recent redesign of the agency and introduction of its G4 model incorporating strategy, creativity and engagement, GolinHarris is going through an exciting realignment. From the very first meeting, the chemistry and cultural fit was evidently strong and continued to build throughout the process. Morevoer, GH’s cutting-edge digital, consumer and corporate expertise perfectly complemented Virgo’s extensive healthcare communications, education and strategic consultancy capability.

By acquiring 100% of the share capital, GolinHarris’ intention is to take Virgo to the next level and to create a leading international healthcare brand.

As well as launching Virgo in North America, the two agencies are to form a digital healthcare practice called Go Digital Health. The joint venture will also draw on the digital expertise of GolinHarris’ recently acquired interactive agency FUSE.
