Life before CG Results:
My M&A career started as a summer intern at Goldman’s. I then joined them and spent four years as an Analyst and then Associate. The biggest deal I worked on was the Telefonica O2 deal in the early 2000’s. My contribution was taxi’ing all the documents from Partner to Partner for signature overnight.
As a result and realising that my heart lay in the mid-market and working with clients selling their own businesses I moved to GCA Altium where I stayed for nearly 13 years, progressed to a senior Director role. My last deals there were the IPO’s of Victorian Plumbing and cmostores. But one day some while ago now CG Results approached me and I loved the idea of another smaller boutique wholly owned by Partners and learning a new sector and all things tech. I joined in July this year and am really loving it so far.
Life before CG Results:
I always wanted to work in Finance – I used to watch all the films like Wall St so I managed to get to LSE to study and then into the graduate programme at Bear Stearns, luckily leaving before the bad days. It was a while before I got into the healthcare industry in M&A but really liked it so have been pleased to have such a great opportunity to develop my knowledge in it.
Life before CG Results:
Being brought up in the Midlands (of the UK) meant I got stuck into every activity going; from ballet and ballroom to every sport you might mention. At school I had more of a knack for the sciences and chose to do a Bachelor’s degree in Genetics. I soon figured the lab was not for me and I followed that with a Masters in Biotech and Business and specialised in licensing. This led me to CG Results where it’s taken three years to get on to my first licensing deal, but it was worth the wait.
Life before CG Results:
I grew up by the River Thames and went to the local grammar – I loved swimming and trained 8 times a week – although not in the river! I very nearly read Law at Uni and wanted to be a lawyer. It was a close run thing but switching to psychology at the last minute has proved super-useful in this job. After Uni I had no idea what I wanted to do, or even what a grad scheme was, so I just applied to all the top 10 ‘best employers’ and via a mini-break in International Tax (very not for me) I got started in M&A and worked with a couple of firms. Six years later I joined CG Results and the rest, as they say, is history.
Life before CG Results:
Growing up in a little town on the Suffolk and Essex border my favourite activity was dancing – anything from tap to ballet to acro – see later. At school and in life my main interests centred around humanities; people and society so studying Sociology and Anthropology was a great choice for me, fuelled by a gap year travelling in S E Asia and exploring lots of different cultures.
Post Uni I stayed in Oxford as long as I could eking out the student life style but had a few interesting jobs, one of which was interviewing, but eventually London and a career beckoned.
Life before CG Results:
Early years in Huenxe, a small town near Dusseldorf, was followed by a very science focussed academic route. Deciding a lab wasn’t for me though, despite completing my PhD, didn’t take too long and I became increasingly keen on combining science with something more commercial so applied to CG Results and have never looked back. Six years later I have never had a day when I was bored and I have done a huge range of deals from divesting a wide range of manufacturing sites to sell-sides, PE buy-sides
